St George Illawarra Dragons
About the Dragons
Originally two single top level clubs who competed primarily in the New South Wales Rugby League competition, the 1921 established St George Dragons and the 1982 established Illawarra Steelers joined to become the St George Illawarra Dragons in 1998.
In the opening game of the 1999 season the Red V took to the field in front of over 104,000 fans as the St George Illawarra Dragons.
Together they are renowned for their rich history and tradition of success.
The Club wears a white jersey emblazoned with a red “v” and has achieved a grand total of 16 Premierships after success in 1941, 1949, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1977, 1979, 2010.
The Dragons went one further when crowned world champions last season after securing victory in the 2011 World Club Challenge.
